Just 8 months ago, I was considered obese. I was unhealthy. I was uncomfortable. I avoided mirrors because I couldn’t stand the sight of myself, and I avoided social situations because I was ashamed. I had completely lost myself. I was miserable, and my husband and two young children were coping with it. I didn’t want to live that way anymore but I felt so overwhelmed by all of the information out there, and I was afraid. I was afraid to put in hard work and get no results. I was afraid that I’d lose to much weight or gain too much muscle. I was afraid of potentially messing with my metabolism, of losing my period, of loose skin but mostly I was afraid of putting myself first.
I was scrolling through Instagram one day and came across Katie’s business. It was then that I decided to hire a coach, and I knew almost immediately that Katie was the one for me. Why? Katie is a nationally recognised nutritionist AND a qualified personal trainer, it’s not often you come across someone who can do both. She is affordable, which had to be considered being that I was a stay-at-home mama and my husband is an apprentice. She is a mother herself, so she gets it. She is a wealth of knowledge, and included in your coaching are education docs covering all things health and well-being. Katie also works with naturopaths, mindset coaches, breath work coaches, physiotherapists, etc., to provide her clients with all the knowledge they need plus more to reach their goals and become the best versions of themselves. Another thing that stood out to me was the food. Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and dessert! Every day! Ice cream, pizza, chocolate, nachos, pie. Soul foods!
I originally signed up to do both nutrition and training with Katie, but at the end of week 1, I opted out of the training. I was feeling a little overwhelmed and like I needed to focus on just one thing at a time. At the end of the 8-week intake, I had lost 12 kgs and 65 cm, focusing solely on nutrition. Having achieved those results and feeling so supported by Katie, I decided to keep working with her. I got the nutrition side of things down pat, and then I slowly introduced exercise, and now I have a solid training program that includes a variety of strength, resistance, cardio and mobility and is updated every 4 weeks. I also go to Katie’s Bootcamp on Saturday mornings which I enjoy so much, and I have just started doing weekly PT sessions with Katie, too; right now, we are focusing on correct form and it has been so beneficial to me. Thanks to Katie, I am learning to love exercise again.
Every week I have the opportunity to request certain foods to be included in my meal plan, and when I do, Katie always comes through. She has noted my likes and dislikes and adjusted my meal plans accordingly. If I run into trouble while doing my grocery shopping or meal prep, she is always quick to respond with a solution. Katie will provide you with all the tools you need to reach your goals, you just need to do the work.
I have lost 25kgs now and 143.5cms. I have achieved this by being in a slight calorie deficit, working hard, staying consistent and having Katie as my coach. I signed up with Katie to lose weight, and I did that, but the weight loss is minor compared to everything else I have gained.
I am no longer obese. I am healthy. I am not uncomfortable. I stop and look in the mirror now. I am going out with friends. I got a job, and I am playing sports again. I am finding myself. I am happy, and my husband and two young children now reap that benefits. I want to live. I’m not afraid anymore. I am the most confident in my body and myself as a person that I have ever been. I have done so much growth over the last 8 months, and I have Katie to thank for it all. There wouldn’t be a day over the last 8 months that we haven’t spoken. We generally have at least 3 different conversations going across 3 different platforms at any one time, and there’s always a reel being shared between us related to delicious food or the joys of motherhood. I have found a friend in my coach, which is pretty bloody special.
